


Kali Puja 2012
Kali Puja will be celebrated on November 17, 2012. Puja begins at 6:00pm followed by Dinner and then our professional program from Kolkata - Robi-O-Nobin - a new band making waves in Kolkata. Food will be special that day. Costs for food are covered in Patron membership fees, however general members can purchase food plates by letting us know in advance. Details are below.

Robi-O-Nobin - Creating new waves in Kolkata
Soumitra Ray
Lead singer, lyricist, composer. The massive display of rhythm instruments that occupy the center of the stage belongs to him. His range varies from the drums, thumba, bongo, madol and even the African djembe. Initiation into music from the age of three and influenced by years of choir singing in school in Darjeeling. Has rendered his voice in numerous ad jingles and TV serials and has also sung the title track of the award winning film Mr. & Mrs. Iyer under the direction of Ustad Zakir Hussain. An avid reader, he also sketches, writes and takes interest in all types of sports. Loves his camera too. Father of two music-loving sons, loves to spend time at home when possible. Has performed as the lead singer for famous Bengali Band, Bhoomi & now Robi O Nobin.
Robin LaiRobin is a self-taught pianist and a violinist, performing since school. Qualified for the Trinity College Grade IV and played piano for the Calcutta Foundation Orchestra under Fran Caterini. Claims to be interested in contemporary folk because he has already "done" classical, rock and jazz. A computer wiz, he is best appreciated for his easygoing attitude and witty remarks. Plays the violin, keyboards and is also the sound engineer of Bengali bands, Bhoomi and now Robi O Nobin.
Arjyesh Ray
Arjyesh has been trained in orchestral percussions since the age of 7. Brought up in a family well affiliated with music, it was but natural that he too would inherit the gene. He began playing drums in school, winning many awards for solo as well as band performance. An avid writer as well, he has penned numerous lyrics in English, Hindi and Bengali. Has a very surrealistic approach to songwriting, have written many songs for the band Maseeha. Famous Indian percussionist, Zakir Hussain is his inspiration. Arjyesh is the songwriter and percussionist for the band, Maseeha and Robi O Nobin. His performances range from places like Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Someplace Else, Hard Rock Cafe, India and Max Mueller Bhavan.
Irene Sarkar
Irene is a rising star of the Bengali music scene and has earned a position for herself in the industry with a great command over almost all genres of Indian music.
Irene has been fortunate enough to get training in Indian music forms from maestros like Sri Jatileswar Mukhopadhyay, Sri Mallar Bose, Sri Jayanta Sarkar, Dr. Parthasarathi Bhattacharya (Ekalavya), Dr. Tanya Das, Smt Chandraboli Rudradutta and has also learnt a lot from the company of other learned musicians. She earned her Geetabharati music degree from the renowned Gitabitan institution in 2009.
She also has to her credit successful music performances telecast on premiere Bengali TV channels like Doordarshan, Mohua Bangla, Tara Music, Star Anondo, CTVN, NE Bangla, Srishti TV, Mon Channel, Akaash Bangla, R Plus etc. She has released five albums in different genres, Gaanguli Mor, Borsha Ashe Bashanto, Janmabhumi, Ponchisey Boishak and Priyam Toke( the latest album released in April, 2012)
Subhomoy Mitra
A graduate in Economics from the renowned Jadavpur University in Kolkata, Subhomoy Mitra's heart was always in music. From a very young age, Subhomoy illustrated his musical abilities. He was part of his School & College band, participated in many school organized musicals & inter-college competitions. Subhomoy has shown great skills as a bass guitarist, has accompanied Indian bands such as Kolors, Merchants of Venom, Maseeha and Robi O Nobin.
