We are deeply saddened to report that a long-time Prabasi member, Mr. Asit Bhattacharya passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at a hospital in Sunnyvale.  He is survived by his wife, Shibani, son, Amit daughter, Soma and grandchildren.  He was the son of Professor Haridas Bhattacharya, an eminent professor of philosophy at Dacca University since the university was founded.

Mr.  Bhattacharya was a resident of the San Francisco Bay Area since 1970, having earlier lived in Oakland, Richmond, Moraga and finally in Sunnyvale.  He worked for the Bechtel Corporation in San Francisco in Mining and Metals Division since 1970 and was currently leading a retired life.  Mr. Bhattacharya was closely associated with Prabasi since its founding days in 1974.

Mr. Bhattacharya went to South Suburban School in Kolkata, followed by Presidency College and finally to IIT Kharagpur from where he graduated in 1956 with a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.  He worked in ICI in Kolkata before moving over to USA in 1968 to Pittsburg, before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area.

A quiet, soft spoken, dignified man, Asit Bhattacharya was loved by all.
