Dear Member,

It is time to mark your calendar for the Prabasi Annual Day event
(Ananda Mela) on June 1st, 2003. The General Body Meeting will start
at 3:00PM in the auditorium. We are pleased to announce that we will
have an important guest at the Mela -- Kobi Joy Goswami, the best
known contemporary Benagali poet. He will be reciting at the
auditorium as well as be available for discussion with the attendees.
There will be an exciting sequence of programs starting from 1 PM at
the Amphitheater.

CULTURAL PROGRAMS AT AMPHITHEATER: 1:00 PM TO 2:40 PM

(a) 'Choir Songs' by IIT Kharagpur.
(b) Joining in this spirit of Mela with 'Dance of Joy' by Baybashi.
(c) Bringing the joyous feelings of life with 'Nirtya Mallika' by Bal
    Bharati
(d) An ensemble of Indian folk dances 'Rangoli' by Shruti.

We will have all sorts stalls including various types of snacks,
CD's/Tapes and many more.

PROGRAMS IN THE AUDITORIUM:

General Body Meeting: 3:00 PM to 3:45 PM
"Kabir Sathe Mukho-Mukhi" with Kabi Joy Goswami: 3:50- 4:50PM
Amantran's Presenation: 5:00 PM to 5:20 PM
Movie: starts at 5:30 PM

Part I. Satyajit Ray's documentary on Sukumar Roy.
Part II. 'Hirok Rajar Deshe' .

TWO NEW COMMITTEES
==================
We are pleased to inform you about the formation of two new committees
that would assist in execution of various events and also provide
guidance to build a better and successful organization.

1. Cultural Resource Group

The Cultural Resource Group is an independent body which will provide
consultation to the Prabasi Board of Directors for establishing good
cultural activities all around the year and provide fiduciary guidance
to promote and increase membership enrollment of the organization.. If
any member is interested in joining this Leadership group, please
contact Susmita Bhattacharya at 408-270-2610 or sign-up using

2. Advisory Committee

The Role of the Advisory committee will be to provide guidance for our
non-profit organisations. The roles and the responsibilities of this
committee will be explicit. The committee will provide advise, on
request from the Board, on important policy decisions. The Advisory
committee will be an useful instrument of the board. The Board and the
Chairman will select the members of this Advisory committee. Board
will announce the names two weeks from now.


CHILDRENS' PROGRAM ON ANNUAL DAY
================================

Calling on all children for Ananda Mela Children's Center !

1) Fun Frolic and... yes, you got it! FACE PAINTING! Talented young
Bay Area teens will be volunteering to do face painting for the young
and the restless...

2) Drawing and Coloring Center: For the artistically inclined, we will
have drawing and coloring available. Every 30 mins, two art pieces
will be selected and displayed on a wall of honor.

3) There will be an Art contest and  Poetry/Essay writing contest
(judged by age and/or grade),  All entries must be sent by May 15th
to:

Winners and Honorable Mentions will be announced and displayed on the
wall of honor.

    A) The theme for ART entries for the art contest will be: 'Ananda
    Mela - a Spring Festival!!'
    Please be sure to include your name, age and grade at the back of
    your art entry.

    B1) Literature entries for 3rd grade and under:
    Theme: 'Spring - a time for Ananda, Fun and Frolic'. A story (2
    pages max) or poetry (1 page max.)

    B2) Literature entries for 4th, 5th and 6th:
    Theme: 'Poila Baisakh (Bengali New Year) - what a celebration in
    Spring' poetry (2 page max.) or an essay (4 pages max.)

    C) Literature entries for 7th and 8th:
    Theme: 'Poila Baisakh (Bengali New Year) - Any new year
    resolutions? What are your aspirations?' Poetry (2 page max.) or
    an essay (4 pages max.)

    D) Literature entries for 9th - 12th:
    Theme: 'Will the Bengali New Year bring peace and hope? What would
    you hope for, the most?'
        -OR-
    'How do you aspire to achieve the maximum enrichment in your life,
    while living amidst two very diverse cultures - Indian and
    American? What are your aspirations? Have you met them yet?'
    Poetry (4 page max.) or an essay (4-5 pages max.)

Please pass this on to all Bay Area children within your friend circle
who may be interested to participate.
