Subject: Durga Puja: Welcome message from Chairman
Dated: Oct 08, 2002
Dear Member,

On the eve of Durga Puja the following is a message from the Prabasi
Chairman. We also have some news about North American Bengali
Conference 2003 to held at Los Angeles from July 4-6, 2003.

The Countdown is over and the familiar beat of dhaak signifies the
aagomoni of Durga Puja.

Every year, the month of ashwin, augurs a festive mood in all
Bengalis. No matter which part of the world a Bengali might be and
under whatever economic condition, The thrill of the commencing Pujas
is inevitable. Puja preparations, gifts, plans for long 'adda'
sessions with friends - these are the essence of the season.

Prabasi welcomes you with your family members and friends to the Year
2002 Durga Puja. This year, Prabasi has been fortunate to celebrate
Durga Puja on the actual days of the Puja. Prabasiís Puja will be as
exciting, if not more, as it has always been. This year's cultural
events have been adroitly planned to accommodate a variety of
programs. We have local talents performing Mahalaya, A Natak by noted
writer Samaresh Majumdar from Kolkata, Dance Drama by Tanushree
Shankar's troupe, and the ever popular Mumbai playback singers Kumar
Sanu and composer, Bappi Lahiri.

This time we also have an open stage in the amphitheatre area where
anyone can come and demonstrate their talents. There is a star inside
everyone of us and this is the platform where we can share our talents
with our friends and families.

Following Durga Puja we have Kalipuja on Nov 2nd at Chabot College.
About forty Bay Area Prabasi children will be performing "Symphony of
Nature". Your presence in the auditorium will be very encouraging for
the performers.

We look forward to seeing you at Durga Puja

Banga Sammelan or North American Bengali Conference 2003 will be held
in the West Coast again. (The last time was in 1999 when Prabasi had
hosted the event). NABC 2003 will be hosted by Dakshini of Los Angeles
from July 4 to 6, 2003. Los Angeles is close enough to call it
drivable from San Francisco Bay Area. Therefore you may want to attend
this conference if you were unable to attend the other ones since they
were too far away. The chairman of NABC-2003, Samprakash Majumdar,
will be in the Bay Area this weekend to accept on-site NABC
registration forms at Durga Puja site from Bay Area residents. Special
registration prices will be given to Prabasi members if you register
during the weekend. Please remember to visit the NABC booth at Durga

Registration forms may also be downloaded from Prabasi web-site.
