Dear Member,

We cordially invite you to join us and celebrate Baishakhi on
July 15, 2000 at Chabot College Auditorium, Hayward from 6:15 pm
onwards. Our star attraction of the day is renowned singer
Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta from Kolkata.

Prabasi will also hold its Annual General Body Meeting on July 15th
2000. You are invited to attend and address all your concerns.

Swagata Lakshmi is one of the top tier artists in the current
Bengali music circle in Kolkata. She will be presenting a variety
of Bengali songs including Adhunik, Rabindrasangeet, Atulprasadi
etc. Swagatalaksmi received her M.A.(Music) from Rabindra Bharati
University and took her lesson in classical music from her father
Shri Pabitra Dasgupta and Rabindrasangeet from Smt. Maya Sen. She
has presently 17 solo albums as cassettes, 14 other cassettes and 4
CDs released by HMV.  She is an A grade artist of AIR and TV. She
is now a permanent artist for HMV.

She has a number of awards to her credit - Promotesh Barua award for
best female performance in 1995, Ujala Anandlok award in 1998 and
1999 for best female playback, Dishari (Film Journalist award) for
best female playback in 1998-99, Uttamkumar award for best
Rabindrasangeet cassette( Esecho Prem) in 1997, SailajaRanjan award
in 1998 and ChaCha award for outstanding achievement in music for
the decade 1990-1999.

She had stood first in All India singing talent Contest in 1985,
Rabindra sangeet and Bhajan in AIR music competition (Akashbani )
in 1986, Rabindrasangeet and AtulPrasadi both in West Bengal Rajya
music competition in 1986. She was invited by the Tagoreans, London
to perform in London and Belgium in 1989 -90. She is the music
director, lyricist and singer in the film Ding-Dong directed by
Chinmoy Roy. She is being honored with the millenium kalakar award
for her outstanding contribution in Indian music.

Chabot College Performing Arts Center is centrally
located in the San Francisco east Bay area (Hayward)
near the intersection of Hwy 880 and Hwy 92 West (San
Mateo Bridge).

From Hwy 880 take exit for Hwy 92 West (San Mateo
Bridge). Stay in the right hand lane and take the first
exit (Hesperian Blvd.) Turn right on Hesperian Blvd
(going North). Stay on the left hand lane and turn left
at the first traffic light (Depot Rd). Take 2nd entrance
into the parking lot F.


Dinner will only be served to patrons and volunteers. For all
others, food will be available from an external caterer.

There is no attendance fee for Annual members. For others, the per-
event fee is $15.00 for every individual, $10.00 for a dependant
(parent or child) and $10.00 for students. Children under 5 years
are free.
