Dear Member,

Our annual grand event - Durga Puja is this week. We have prepared an
ensemble of entertaining cultural programs by local artists and
renowned names from Kolkata. We are waiting eagerly to meet you on Oct
6th at Chabot College, Hayward, where our celebrations begin. Please
note that Protima Darshan is FREE and open to everyone in the Bay
Area. All cultural programs at Durga Puja are free for members. Non-
member fees for the cultural programs at Durga Puja (for all 3 days)
is $40.00 per head. Guests of existing members can attend for $25.00
per head.

 8:15pm to 1:00pm - Aadhunik and RabindraSangeet (Lopamudra Mitra)
10:30pm to midnight - Geet Alankar (Kohinoor, Subhen and orchestra)

Sunday, October 8

11:00 am to 12:30pm - Puja Anjali
 3:30 pm to  5:30pm - Aadhunik, RabindraSangeet, (Sreeradha Bannerjee)

The above schedule is brief. A more detailed schedule along with a
description of artists and some programs is available at 

There will be a special children's program on Saturday from 2:00pm
onwards involving fun events for children. Please contact Shompa
Bhattacharya (408-366-2637) if you want your child to participate.


Our caterers for Durga Puja is Raja Sweets and Indian Cuisine (Union
City). They will be cooking on site and will be available from Friday
thru Sunday. Food will be free for Patron members and Volunteers. All
others may buy food from the caterers. Bhog is free for all members.


Academic Publishers (Calcutta) will hold a book-fair during Durga Puja
days from October 6 to 8th. They will be bringing books on Bengali
literature, including classics, novel, short stories, poetry, culinary
and of course Saradiya. This will a good opportunity for book-lovers
to buy their favorite books.

Biswas Music ( will also have a stall at the
Durga Puja site. They manufacture high quality digitally recorded
music CDs.

In response to Bay Area Prabasi's call for Flood relief in West
Bengal, we have received the following note from Sri Arun Gangopadhyay
(husband of Pilu-di who passed away earlier this year).
