Subject: Prabasi Durga Puja 2001 Invitation and Schedule
Dated: Oct 29, 2001
Dear Member,

Prabasi's Durga Puja is next week-end from Friday Nov 2nd to Sunday
Nov 4th. Yes you heard it right - we have a three day puja instead of
the previously announced two-day puja. We are doing our best to put up
an entertaining set of programs within a cordial social setting. Also
in accordance with our motto of giving back to the society, we will be
collecting donations for disaster relief both within the country and
outside.

To dispel a popular myth, protima-darshan and prasad is free for
everyone. To see the professional cultural programs you have ONE of
the following three choices:

(1) Be a Prabasi annual member or Donor (all programs FREE for current
year)
(2) Pay a flat fee of $45.00 per person for all three days
(3) Pay for individual programs (Amit Kumar $25.00, Usha Utthup
$20.00, Aarti Mukherjee $20.00)

Over the long run being an annual member comes out to be cheaper, but
you have a choice to do it in either of the above three ways.

The following is the text of the letter from the General Secretary
mailed to you this week.

MESSAGE FROM GENERAL SECRETARY
==============================
Prabasi welcomes you with your family members and friends to the year
2001's largest Durga Puja celebrations in Northern California. Please
note that the three-day events will be held from November 2 to
November 4 at the popular venue in Chabot College in Hayward.

Exciting cultural events have been planned for your entertainment. In
addition to the advertised programs with Kolkata and Bombay singing
stars Usha Uthup, Arati Mukherjee and Amit Kumar (See Schedule),
Prabasi has arranged an unusual entertainment program on Friday,
November 2. This will be an informal musical program held in the
comfortable and casual setting of the puja shamiana. Please make sure
you attend this gathering for a taste of Kolkata Jalsa, a first for
any Durga Puja in the Bay Area.

In addition to our musical guests, local performers and Prabasi member
children will entertain us over the weekend. Arati Mukherjee and Usha
Uthup are already in the U.S. Amit Kumar, who will be felicitated with
an award at the Bollywood Music Awards in New York on November 10,
will arrive in the Bay Area on October 31, with a full orchestra.
Please encourage our talented local artists with your presence at
their events.

The price for admittance to all three evenings is $45 per head or $20
per event. Of course all events are FREE for Prabasi members. Your
annual family membership of $135 (for a family with a couple, one old
child and one small child) includes entry for four member not only
during the Durga Puja events, but also for the upcoming Kali Puja
events (scheduled for November 17 at Chabot College), Saraswati Puja
and annual event as well. As you can see, a family membership
represents substantial savings. For individuals, the annual membership
of $65 also offers savings for all four yearly events. If you have not
already done so, please renew your membership and take advantage of
this offer.

In earlier email letters, Prabasi has notified members of its
fundraising drive for victims of the World Trade Center disasters. Our
volunteers will be available to collect donations towards the WTC
tragedy relief. You will also be able to buy specially designed T-
Shirts. All proceeds from the sales will go to benefit the WTC Victims
through the Red Cross or Mayor Guiliani's disaster relief fund.

There will be a Prabasi General Body Meeting on November 17 during
Kali Puja. We welcome your particiapation. This is a perfect forum to
bring your compliments or voice your concerns if any. We look forward
to seeing you at Durga Puja. Happy Dussehra.

- Reema Mukherjee
Prabasi General Secretary
