Baishakhi 98

The Baishakhi Festival was celebrated on May 2nd at the Spangenberg Auditorium in Palo Alto. The programme had
two main attractions - a dance-drama called Alasha Sayon Chhaaro which was based on songs by Salil Choudhury,
and a play called Dadaar Kirtti based on the film with the same name. Below are glimpses of the colorful
programs.

Saraswati Puja 98

Saraswati Puja was organized at Sunnyvale Hindu temple on January 31, 1998.
The cultural program began with a Children's Fancy Dress competetion and was followed by an afternoon of songs
and dances by children of the Bay Area.
The evening started with a recitation program "A Collection of Poems" by a talented local group. This
was followed by a cultural program of contemporary songs by Mala Ganguly from Los Angeles.

Kali Puja 97

Kali Puja was organized on November 1, at Chabot College, Hayward.
 |
Among the cultural items, we staged a play, Chiching-Phaank by Bay Bahurupi. |

The play was followed by a musical programme by Kajol and her orchestra. |
Many thanks to the entire team of volunteers who made the Kali Puja a success. |

Durga Puja 97

This year Durga Puja was organized on October 11 and 12 at Chabot College, Hayward, and was attended by 1600
people in the Bay Area - the highest number of visitors we have ever had.

Tiktiki - A Bengali Play
A scene from the play. The sets were done from scratch by Prabasi volunteers over
a period of two days from sketches and photographs sent by the artists.
Prabasi Float stands third in Independence Day Celebrations
We participated in float competetion at the Independence Day celebrations in Fremont in August 1997. The Bay
Area Prabasi Float was adjudged third.
